Deceased Name: ALVIN EDELSTEIN

Alvin Edelstein, 82, of Virginia died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Superior to Roy and Ida (Zalk) Edelstein.

Alvin was employed 30 years with U.S. Steel as a civil engineer and retired in 1982. He graduated from theUniversity of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He attended Yale University on a fellowship and received a postgraduate degree in traffic engineering. He served as a first lieutenant in the 291stEngineers Combat Battalion and the Army Corp of Engineers in World War II. He fought in both Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

He was an avid outdoors man, a golden gloves boxer, a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi and American Legion. He participated in the ice follies and was a member of both the Duluth and Virginia Figure Skating Club.

He is survived by his wife, Allene; children Denise of Crystal, Minn., Bob of Crystal, Paul of Virginia, Mindy (Mark) Sloo of Minneapolis and Anita (Jim) Curtis of Hermantown; three grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Sinykin of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Military service 10 a.m. Friday at Fort Snelling. Memorials preferred to Parkinson's Association of Minnesota, American Cancer Society or to donor's choice. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home, Virginia.
